About us?

CLIVIS* Publicacions is a sheet music publishing company which was founded in 1946 by Enric Climent Viñas (Barcelona, 1910-1983), who dedicated his entire life to the world of music. Even whilst studying at Barcelona's Conservatorio Superior de Música, he learnt the music recorder's trade, working at Boileau-Berlusconi; he was later appointed viola teacher at the Orquestra Municipal  (later theOrquestra Ciutat de Barcelona ), a post he held for more than 40 years. He was also, during this period, Artistic Director of the Casa Bartomeu concert seasons, and worked as stage director of a number of chamber operas, in addition to commencing his work as a music publisher.

He began by publishing choral work in an economical format, with the aim of providing the numerous amateur choruses that abounded at the time with a decent repertoire. At present, the company has a repertoire of more than 1.200 choral works: the CORAL collection. In the instrumental formations: the collection (the Col·lecció CLIVIS ) currently consists of more than 400 works.

In 1986, in agreement with the Associació Catalana de Compositors  (the Catalan Composers' Association), the company began publishing chamber pieces composed by the Association's members. This, the Col·lecció CLUSTER,  now contains more than 300 works. At about the same time, the company began to meet the music student's demand for less technically challenging works. This collection, the Biblioteca STUDIUM , is now made up of 60 pieces.

In 1990, the company began to widen it's contemporary symphonic repertoire, thereby rescuing works by composers active in the first half of the twentieth century which, due to the Spanish Civil War, had been largely forgotten or ignored: the collection includes works by, amongst others, Eduard Toldrà, Felip Pedrell, Joan and Ricard Lamote de Grignon, Agustí Borgunyó and Joaquim Serra, and comprises 42 symphonic pieces, three operas, a zarzuela  and four cantatas infantiles.

1991 saw the commencement of the publication of the works of Lluís Benejam (Barcelona, 1914 Birmingham, Alabama, 1968), whose works have also been recorded for radio and a number of whose pieces have also been published by record companies.

CLIVIS Publicacions is a partner in the Sociedad General de Autores y Editores  (SGAE, the body that represents the intellectual property interests of Spanish authors and publishers).
